In addition to the standard temperature control features of a high-end thermostat, you can also save energy and money by 1) controlling the thermostat through the internet, and 2) via an in-house INSTEON in-wall or hand-held controller.
For example, you can control the temperature from anywhere in the house! The INSTEON Remote Control Thermostat allows you to recall stored set point/mode settings from any INSTEON-compatible controller. Faster than grabbing a blanket, you can use your coffee table RemoteLinc to recall "comfort mode," bringing the room that perfect temperature. When turning off your lights for the night from your bedside KeypadLinc, you can also save some energy and money by recalling "energy-savings mode" which minimizes the activity of your HVAC system while you're sleeping. Because you can program any button on an INSTEON controller to any temperature and mode on the thermostat, the possibilities are endless.
Compatible Thermostat Included
This kit contains the Venstar T1800 thermostat along with the compatible INSTEON Thermostat Adapter; this thermostat requires power to function.
NOTE: If you do not have a "common" wire running to your existing thermostat from your heating/cooling equipment, you will need to run a new wire.
Installation Prerequisites:
1. Since the INSTEON Thermostat is an RF-only INSTEON product, it is not X10 compatible. Therefore, two (2)
INSTEON Access Points (sold separately) are required to communicate with your plug-in or wire-in INSTEON-compatible devices. The Access Points are simply plugged into 2 different wall outlets.
2. If you want to control the INSTEON Thermostat from anywhere in the house you will also need to purchase either an
in-wall INSTEON Controller (sold separately) or an INSTEON hand-held or table-top remote (sold separately.)
3. If you want to control the INSTEON Thermostat from away-from-home, add the
ISY-99i PRO Home Automation Controller with INSTEON PowerLinc Modem (PLM) (sold separately) to your homes' computer network, and you'll be able to adjust the temperature when away-from-home, using any PC or Handheld device with an Browser.
Easy To Install and Set Up
Once you've installed your thermostat, INSTEON Thermostat Adapter snaps right into the jack on the bottom. Now all you need to do is set the thermostat to the mode/temperature you want and link it to the INSTEON controller of your choice, using INSTEON's simple Plug-n-Tap setup. Every time you activate that scene on the controller, your thermostat will return to the corresponding temperature. From plugging in your INSTEON Thermostat Adapter to changing the temperature from an INSTEON controller, setup takes as little as a couple of minutes.
Below is an example of an INSTEON network. Note the two (2) Access Points plugged into outlets. The Thermostat can be controlled by the RF Handheld device and/or the INSTEON Controller on the left. The Controller is an in-wall unit that also functions as a light dimmer (it replaced an existing ON/OFF light switch.)
Adjust the Temperature Remotely Via the Internet using the ISY-99i PRO Home Automation controller
Connect the
ISY-99i PRO Home Automation Controller with an INSTEON PowerLinc Modem (PLM) (sold separately) to your home's computer network, and you'll be able to adjust the temperature when away-from-home, using any PC or Handheld device with an Browser. The PLM plugs into a wall outlet, just like the 2 Access Points. The PLM provides the "bridge" between the computer network and the INSTEON network.
Adjust the Temperature Remotely Via the Internet using the SmartLinc Central Controller
In order to control your thermostat from
SmartLinc Central Controller, all you need to do is set up a scene in SmartLinc, adjust the thermostat to the setting you want, then link to the appropriate scene in your SmartLinc. Now, an "On" command sent from that scene in your SmartLinc will restore your thermostat to the settings it had when you linked it.
For example, you might prefer to set up a room called "Temperature," where you have a scene for each of the temperature settings you'd want to set from SmartLinc. Or, you might incorporate temperature into your other scenes, such as the "Goodbye" or "Welcome Home" scenes.
