About Whole-house Audio/Video: Did you know?
Imagine having audiophile-quality music in every room of your home with nothing visible other than an elegant, wall-mounted keypad and virtually invisible in-wall or in-ceiling speakers. This is the dream system of interior decorators -- it is now available to you at reasonable cost.
Whole-house audio/video refers to a centralized A/V system that distributes music and video signals throughout your home. Because the system is centralized, the only components required in each connected room are speakers and TV screens. The centralized components can be placed in your basement media room or in your electronic Control room. Once set up, you'll be able to control the entire system using a handheld remote in any connected room.
How to set up Whole-house Audio/Video
There are two (2) main ways to set up whole-house AUDIO.
Option 1: The most traditional way is to set up a central Audio Distribution System, like a NuVo Essentia system, and run speaker wire to each connected room. Install keypads for individual control of each room. Switching among sources is as easy as the touch of a button. You can listen to multiple sound sources in different zones simultaneously. Sound source input options are, e.g., Ipod Docking Station, Reveicer, DVD/CD Player, Stereo Tuner, and DirecTV/FIOS/Cable Receiver.
Option 2: The second alternative is setting up an A-BUS system like those supplied by Channel Vision. The A-BUS system is the digital CAT5 cable, and because it's digital, it supplies a clean signal.
About Choosing a Remote Control: Did you know?
There are 2 types of Remotes, namely,
1) Pre-programmed,
Programmed at the factory to to operate most TV's, DVD Players, etc. -- but they cannot control lights
2) Learning,
These learn signals from your existing Remotes and are ideal for non-A/V equipment, such as lights and drapes. So, if you want to replace the clutter of Remotes with 1 Remote that can control it all -- including lights -- then go with the Learning Remote. An Example of a very good A/V & Light-dimmer Remote is the Monster Home Theater Remote Controller. It has very advanced A/V control capabilities and can dim any Z-Wave RF enabled dimmer, such as the Leviton Vizia line of dimmers, plug-in light modules, and scene controllers.
About Z-Wave RF: Did you know?
Z-Wave is an RF communications platform that utilizes mesh-networking technology, which means that, instead of relying on a central communications hub, each product in the network is a two-way repeater that sends and receives commands wirelessly. The more Z-Wave products you add, the more robust the system becomes.
Z-Wave RF enables wirelessly controlled lighting systems that require minimal installation. For example, if you replace an existing wall-switch with a Vizia RF Z-Wave 600W Incandescent Dimmer, you can set up scenes that can be controlled by a Z-Wave enabled A/V Remote.
