Smart Security & Surveillance |
|
Whether you're home or away, Security & Surveillance systems will help to keep your home safe. In addition to alerting you at home for monitored conditions, all the systems we sell can remotely contact you via either phone/cell/Internet. The systems can also be remotely controlled via either phone/cell/Internet.
Security Systems -- The main components of a Security system is a wired or wireless controller, with various wired & wireless sensors/devices attached to it. The types of sensors include door/window contact, glassbreak, motion, smoke, flood, humidity, indoor/outdoor temperature, power out, and more. Our Security systems also support Lights and Surveillance Cameras.
Surveillance Systems -- The main components of a Surveillance system consists of a camera, a recorder, a viewer, and a transmission medium.
When selecting a surveillance camera, decide which options are desirable for your needs. Indoor and outdoor wireless video cameras are available. Some offer pan/tilt/zoom control, even from a web-connected computer, while others will transmit to a receiver connected to your monitor or TV.
Types of Security Systems |
|
As mentioned above, the main components of a Security system is a wired and/or wireless controller, with various wireless & wired sensors and devices attached to it. The types of sensors include door/window contact, glassbreak, motion, smoke, flood, humidity, indoor/outdoor temperature, power out, and more. Some also support devices such as surveillance cameras, thermostats, and lights.
The Security systems can be accessed & controlled (the type of control varies by system) from-home, as well as away-from-home. Remote access, control, and notification (when an event trigger occurs) is accomplished via telephone (landline, cell) and/or via the Internet.
The Security systems sold at this website come in two (2) main flavors, namely,
- Monitor & control a Remote Location via a land-line telephone, The system comes with a base set of sensors and capabilities. You can add additional sensors and capabilities, but only those supported by the manufacturer of the system. They have Remote Notification and Remote Control capabilities via a land-line telephone. An example is the Sensaphone 400 system.
- A full-fledged, supervised Security system that can be monitored and controlled from at-home or from a Remote Location via a the web, via a cell phone, or a land-line telephone. They come with a base set of sensors, but they also support a wide variety of add-on sensors, devices, and capabilities. An example of that is the SecureLinc2 Wireless Home Security System. The SecureLinc 2 is a full-fledged security system, similar in capability of, say, an ADT system, but without the expense of a monitoring service. In the following diagram, we present the possible wiring configuration of our high-end home security system, the SecureLinc 2.
- The left side of the diagram shows the various wireless sensors, and devices that can be monitored.
- On the bottom are the Keypads and Remotes
- On the top are examples of lights and appliances that can be controlled via your home/business electrical wiring. The protocol is X10. INSTEON devices that can operate in X10 mode can also be controlled. To allow SecureLinc 2 to control X-10 devices, you'll need to purchase a two-way Powerline Interface unit (about $30, from any Internet source). This unit has a powerline plug and an ethernet cable receptacle (RJ45). Connect the unit into a wall outlet and connect the RJ45 receptacle via an ethernet cable to the SecureLinc 2 Panel.
- On the right side are the various notification and monitoring possibilities.
- The most secure way an alarm system can perform notification of a user, monitoring service, police, fire department, etc., is via a cellular interface. The reason for this is that a sophisticated burglar can cut your landline phone and Internet connection by simply cutting the cable(s) from the side of your house -- thus, severing your landline phone & web connection. Secure Linc 2 includes a built-in cellular interface. To severe cellular communication the burglar must enter the house and find the SecureLinc 2 Master Control Panel (which you'll install in a concealed location.)
- Cell-phone notification can be via data, voice or text. A GSM-compatible (3/4G) SIM card is required. A prepaid 3/4G protocol SIM card is the most economical (e.g., from T-Mobile or AT&T.) You do NOT need to purchase a cell phone, only the SIM card with prepaid minutes.
- Although you can interface SecureLinc 2 to any professional monitoring service, it is not required. If you want to do your own monitoring, you'll save about $36 - 45/month (ADT rates; landline vs. cell interface).
- If you want to monitor or receive notifications from SecureLinc 2 via a computing device over the Internet, you'll have to purchase the PowerLink2 internal add-on module. Install it into the SecureLinc 2 Control Panel and connect it to your home network (via an Ethernet cable). The PowerLink2 module also allows the integration of up to twelve (12) surveillance cameras into the SecureLinc 2 Security system. Note: only one (1) PowerLink2 module is required to do both web-based remote access/notification and controlling/viewing surveillance camera(s).
- If you want to monitor or receive notifications from the system via a landline telephone(s), you'll need to connect the SecureLinc 2 Console to a telephone jack. Of course, you can monitor/receive notifications via more than one method concurrently (i.e., cell, landline, computer in any/all combinations).
- SecureLinc 2 requires line-voltage (110-120V) with battery back-up. Line-voltage is connected through a 12V DC Adapter (included with the system).
- As part of your overall security solution, you can integrate up to twelve (12) Visonic surveillance cameras into SecureLinc 2. Camera integration also requires you to purchase the PowerLink2 module. For example, the Visonic pan/tilt camera not only records crisp, real-time streaming video in MPEG-4 format, but its live feed and images can be viewed from any device capable of accessing the internet. For each connected camera, the PowerLink2 can store 5 frames of pre-alarm and 10 frames of post-alarm images. The cameras are sold separately.
- If you do NOT want to integrate surveillance cameras into SecureLinc 2, any wireless/wired IP camera (although not directly connected to SecureLinc 2) can be monitored via a computing device at-home or away-from-home -- since the camera(s) have their own IP address. For example, the Visonic IP camera delivers its live feed to any web-enabled device.
Positioning the components of the SecureLinc 2 Security system |
|
- The SecureLinc 2 console should be installed in a concealed location, so that if a break-in occurs, the perpetrator cannot easily disable the unit. We recommend that you purchase and install a Wireless keypad by your main entrance for easy arming/disarming and programming purposes. If the burglar thrashes this unit, it will not affect the SecureLinc 2 capacity to function.
- If you have a landline phone, mount SecureLinc 2 close to a wall phone jack for easy connection. If you do not have a landline phone, SecureLinc 2 should be placed in an upper floor for the best possible cellular signal reception. Remember that you need to purchase a GSM SIM card (prepaid is the best deal, e.g., it's $100 for a year's usage for 1,000 minutes from T-mobile or AT&T.) GSM is a cellular protocol; different carriers use different protocols -- e.g., Verizon and SPRINT use CDMA protocol, which is not compatible with SecureLinc 2. Please note that in all mounting locations SecureLinc 2 also requires a powerline (110-120V) receptacle nearby.
Interfacing the SecureLinc 2 Security system to a professional Monitoring service |
|
- Most recently manufactured professional security systems, such as the SecureLinc 2, conform to security industry standards. This means that SecureLinc 2 can interface to any professional monitoring service, including ADT -- the largest monitoring service in the US. The monitoring company technician will program SecureLinc 2 with the appropriate interface protocol codes so that it will function with their monitoring computer interface. However, the monitoring service will cost you (@ current ADT rates) $36/mo for landline interface, and $45/mo for cellular interface. Other monitoring companies' rates may be lower. You'll also have to sign a multi-year monitoring contract. If you feel that you nonetheless must have professional monitoring, consider using a monitoring service, such as AlarmRelay. They will monitor your SecureLinc 2 for just 8.95/mo, with no long-term contract required.
- What are the benefits of a monitoring service? When a trigger event (e.g., break-in) occurs, ADT for example, will respond within an average of 19 seconds, by calling you at your home phone number. If you are not at home or do not pick up the phone, they will call your secondary contact #. If you do not answer that either, they will call the police.
- You can save on the professional monitoring expense, if you program SecureLinc 2 to call you on your cell phone. You can then call the police and/or the fire department, depending on the trigger event.
