Remote (away-from-home) Control of Thermostats -- Read/ Change the Temperature of up to 4 Thermostats via any Phone |
|
You can now easily install a new Thermostat, along with a Telephone controller that will enable you to control your thermostat when you are away-from-home. In fact, you can control up to four (4) thermostats with one phone call. The system will speak the existing temperature(s) and, you can adjust the temperature(s) with touch tone digits to any setting you'd like. The system requires a landline phone jack to plug into. Here is an example, using the products that you can purchase at this website:
The Venstar Comfort Call Thermostat Telephone Controller provides remote (away-from-home) access, via telephone (cell/landline), to the Venstar 1 & 7-day Thermostats. Monitor the temperature inside your home over the phone. Adjust temperature of the thermostat using touchtone buttons or voice recognition.
- The Comfort Call consists of 2 parts, namely, a Base Station (Transmitter) that connects to the phone line and an RF Wireless Module (Receiver) that plugs into the Thermostat, as shown in the picture below.
- The ring selector on the Base Station should be set to pick up the line after 7 rings. With this setting, Comfort Call will not answer before an occupant is likely pick up the phone. If an Answering or FAX machine is also connected, then the answering/fax machine should be set to pick up before Commfort Call (i.e., 7 rings.) In the case of a connected answering machine, after the tone to leave a message is heard, the user enters the Comfort Call security code. Comfort Call will release the answering machine from the line and control of the thermostat is now possible.
- Select one of the 3 Venstar Thermostats that can be controlled by Comfort Call, namely, Venstar 1-Day Thermostat, Venstar 7-Day Thermostat, and Venstar 7-Day Dual Fuel Thermostat.
- The Comfort Call Controller will accommodate up to four (4) thermostats, so additional RF Receivers are available, sold separately.
Example: Say, that you want to install a Venstar 7-Day Thermostat to replace your existing thermostat in your living room.
. First, you'll check the number of wires you have running to your existing thermostat (this you do by unscrewing the thermostat form the wall, pulling it out a bit, and counting the number of wires running to it.) If it only has 2 wires STOP -- you cannot replace it with the Venstar Thermostat.
. Second, Determine that you have a Brown Common" ("C") wire. If not, you MUST run a new "C" wire from the HVAC system to the Thermostat.
. Third, purchase from Netropolus Smart Home a Venstar 7-Day Thermostat and a Venstar Comfort Call Thermostat Telephone Controller.
. Fourth, label each wire of your existing thermostat connection (R, G, W, Y, C, RC, RH -- you'll probably NOT have all of these) and remove the thermostat. Install the new Venstar thermostat.
. Fifth, install the Wireless RF Thermostat module (Receiver), by plugging it into the Venstar Thermostat.
. Sixth, set up the Thermostat Telephone Controller and plug it into a nearby land-line telephone outlet. Program & test your system.
